Farnaor - from the ancient language variation of "farnai" - "land, territory, area" and "orr" - "godly, divine, such that has been blessed by heavenly power"; literally: "the land blessed by gods" - the name that Kaelyrs gave to the place they live in. In wider terms, Farnaor is the planet native to Kaelyrs and a huge number of other species of animals and plants.

  1. The Cataclysm

The formation of Farnaor dates back billions of years, and for the majority of its existence it used to be a hot, red planet without a moon, covered in sand and hard rock, with little vegetation and scarce water hidden deep inside its crust. The life on Farnaor back then was tough, but its inhabitants adapted masterfully to survive in the harsh conditions; Kaelyrs of that era, for example, had much thinner fur and narrower eyes, while a certain well-known and deeply respected type of plant - blazewood - would absorb the abundant light and heat to accelerate its chemical processes. In those times, Kaelyrs didn’t possess the intelligence they have now, and were feral.

A few million years back from the modern era the planet witnessed the Cataclysm that completely transformed it: a rampant current of energy flew through space and almost directly hit Farnaor, changing its orbit and piercing its crust. Wonderfully, though, the core of Farnaor remained intact, while the rocky surface of the planet suffered immensely as it cracked and divided into a few huge pieces. The core’s power was enough to barely prevent the crust from floating off into space, but the remains of cosmic energy got trapped in between the cracks as a result, constantly fighting with the core from that day on. Massive chunks of Farnaori land became floating islands, magically held together by chaotic fields and currents, while the whole planet also happened to be much further from its star than before.

This alteration was, of course, critical for most of the Farnaori life. The majority of living things died from falling into the big rifts, the drastic change in temperature that they didn’t have enough time to adjust to, or the intensity of physical phenomena that was occurring on Farnaor throughout the process of stabilization. The rest were either the luckiest, or the most adaptable and the best at surviving; and while most Kaelyrs died out, those that remained managed to keep their numbers low, but stable. Modern Kaelyrian researchers believe that it was especially due to their natural dynamic sex morphology (changing sex allowed Kaelyrs to reproduce more effectively), as well as their sensitive energy recognition systems, and defense mechanisms that protected Kaelyrs from desperate predators. As the havoc on Farnaor started to subside, and its hidden water resources started to leak through the cracks and falling down as snow and rain, the planet’s many species were forced to learn to live anew.

Originally well-adapted for survival in hot, dry conditions, Kaelyrs were now facing much colder temperatures, so over time their metabolism became faster, fur – longer, unique abilities - stronger. Since they were amazing climbers from the start of their existence, Kaelyrs now settled in caves in the mountains where they were protected from rain, snow, and wind. Special skin that grows on their snout and other body parts was one of the biggest factors of their survival, allowing for Kaelyrs to always be aware of even the slightest changes in their surroundings - the main reason for this being that the energy and magnetic currents were going rampant around the whole planet. Over time the Kaelyrs that lived in the closest proximity to the chaotic physical phenomena, as well as many other species of flora and fauna, developed the ability to manipulate physics in order to survive. This magic later became crucial in the forming of the Kaelyrian civilization, culture, and religion.

Kaelyrs have evolved into a very intelligent species capable of complex thinking and speech, but some animal and even plant species on Farnaor are also quite intelligent; they have developed abilities similar to the Kaelyrs’ and exist in complex civilizations further away from the view of the naked eye, following their own primitive customs and not showing any desire to contact with stronger communities. They are difficult to research, and so far, not much is known about their rituals or whether they have any beliefs and are safe to communicate with.

  1. Energy

While it’s true that most of the physical, elemental and cosmic phenomena on Farnaor (commonly referred to as “energy”) has long since stabilized, there are constant flows and shifts of energy all over the planet. The good thing is, they can usually be foreseen or analyzed quickly thanks to the special mechanism in Kaelyrs that boosts their energy sensitivity. There are still dangerous areas present in the cracks between land masses, they are called Active Zones and are avoided by most living organisms, except for those that wondrously adapted to a life there. Occasionally energy flows out of the Active Zones and affects other territories, and if a situation like this occurs near Kaelyrian communes, professionals are sent over to take it under control. Powerful bursts of Cosmic and Elemental energy that rarely occur on Farnaor are very dangerous and are referred to as Disasters. Unpredictable energy is called Chaotic, and energy that can be manipulated is called Controlled. Many animals, including Kaelyrs, and plants on Farnaor can control energy in order to survive.

Overall, there are five types of energy on Farnaor (that Kaelyrs and other living things on Farnaor have access to):
